Do I have to audition to be in the choir?
We do not require auditions. We seek individuals who enjoy a variety of music, at various complexities, patience for those that may learn slower, and flexibility to adjust as we prepare for performances.
Are there membership dues?
To help offset the cost of sheet music as well as miscellaneous supplies needed, we have each member pay $24 annually. If you join after the beginning of the calendar year, your membership dues will be prorated.
Do I purchase special clothing for performances?
To have a professional appearance, we ask that the women purchase a long black skirt and the selected identical top. Jewelry needs to be kept to a minimum in order to not distract from the overall uniform look of the chorus. Men wear black dress pants, black shoes, and alternate between white shirts and jewel-tones shirts. They typically wear black or red ties, sometimes suspenders. The decision is made prior to each performance.
We occasionally perform at less-formal events. Singers typically wear black pants and the Stillwater Community Singers t-shirt.

When and where do you practice?
We practice in the northeast room of the Stillwater Community Center, 7th and Duck. This room is the practice room just off the backstage of the Winfrey Houston Auditorium. Practice begins sharply at 6:45pm-8:15pm. Women continue singing until 9:00pm.
Do I have to sing in the Women's Choir if I sing in the Mixed Chorus?
While we welcome all women to sing in the Women's Chorus, we recognize that everyone's time is limited as well as choir preferences. Feel free to sing in one or both groups.
My schedule doesn't enable me to be at every rehearsal. Can I still join?
We know everyone has busy schedules and sometimes that means missing a few rehearsals. We certainly want rehearsals to be a priority so that we can perfect our sound, etc. together. Missing rehearsal means you do not learn specific directions from our choir directors. However, we also know that 100% attendance is not realistic for every member. We only ask that you make as many rehearsals as possible.
